Linnansaari National Park consists of 130 islands and hundreds of skerries, and is easiest to explore by kayak or canoe. On the islands, there are campfire sites, tents, and toilets. Note that some islands may only be visited by Saimaa seals.
The largest island, Linnansaari, can be reached in summer by waterbus. Traditional slash-and-burn farming is practiced here, and in the extensive deciduous forests, the white-backed woodpecker and the regional bird, the black-throated diver, breed.
The park’s hiking trails take you around the island, and from Linnavuori, used as a lookout a thousand years ago, you get magnificent views. In winter, a skating track is ploughed on the ice.
